The Pioneer was the name used for the home versions of the long discontinued NVX and Pro systems to distinguish them from the Business Models. Many people found this confusing so NetGear decided to have separate Ultra and Pro lines with the Ultra the follow on to the Pioneer and the Pro the follow on to the Business Edition. The carry on of the Pioneer name with the Ultra series was a bit confusing. You should see it say Ultra 4 (with no mention of Pioneer) like on your old unit after the firmware update, I think. I remember my Ultra 6 confusingly being called in RAIDar a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 Pioneer Edition but that was back in the beta period on much older firmware than 4.2.15.
