unable to install Media Server

Hi
I have the ReadyNAS Duo and have recently had to replace the drives in it, and due to other issues, performed a factory reset at that time. Unfortunately I mistakenly clicked 'Remove' for the pre-installed Squeezebox server prior to setting anything up.
I now have my new 2TB WD drives, however when I try to install any version of SB server - or Media Server as it is now called, I get the following error -

ERROR: Logitech Media Server 7.7.0-sparc-readynas installation failed
[Sun Nov 20 18:26:30 EST 2011]

I have tried back to 7.4.0, and up to version 7.7.1 to no avail. I have also undertaken the clean squeezebox process, but it makes no difference and as I have no library installed yet it probably is not applicable anyway, but thought I should run it anyway.
Also when I look at the Streaming Services page, it is shown as installed but when I click Setup a new browser window opens but says it can't connect to the server.

Until I can get this sorted I am unable to access my music, so am keen to hear any suggestions you may have to resolve it. I am not hugely tech savvy, so the more simplistic the reply the better!!
Hope you can help!
Steve

  • If you test the server you may find it did in fact install successfully. Seems this is not a valid error message, possibly caused by some timeout issue in the ReadyNAS addon installation mechanism impacting addons with longer install times
  • Just tried on my NV+ and Media Server 7.7.0 installed without any problems, so I guess there's something else wrong with his system. Just can't say what it might be but maybe it's an issue with the firmware revision on the ReadyNAS. I was using 4.1.7 (4.1.8 should be fine as well but I currently have no Sparc NAS with 4.1.8 up and running).

  • FYI: There are multiple reports of this on the Logitech forums, plus even the Release notes refer to it
  • I don't doubt this. Will try with 4.1.8 later today and have a look at what the installer actually does. But from my current experience the install process was even faster than when installing some of my add-ons so personally I don't think it's a timeout issue. (Yeah, I'm never hesitant to get proven wrong later on ;))

  • Could be wrong also - often am. But it sounded far too similar to the other problem you have encountered and reported. Plus I saw some discussions form the Logitech guys that suggested they were suspicious this issue was related to changes on the Netgear side as the installer (from their perspective) hasn't changed.

Be interested to see what you find. Note I believe x86 users have encountered this too
  • I received the same error when I updated to the latest full version this morning. Following this, I shut down and rebooted my ReadyNAS Pro and the ran the cleaner again per the instructions. Upon reboot, it rebuilt the database and everything was functional.
  • I gave the OS install a go, and there seems to have been a change.... when I click streaming services and select squeezecenter and apply, the page refreshes but the box is then unchecked again.
I have restarted etc to no avail.
If I click setup underneath the squeezecenter option, an new browser page opens but it stays blank (previously it had an error message)...

Appreciate all the help so far - any other thoughts?

    Steve
