Update:
Apart from the edit I made above, I stuck in a new disk to test. It booted and runs and sees the single disk, but when I go to volumes there is no tab for Volumes, just USB. Can't I have a single disk, or is this something more problematic? Should I do TFTP firmware refresh (and will that destroy the original disks when I put them back into the NAS?)
