Upgraded 1100, can't mount /c

We upgraded one of our 1100s to 4.1.9 and it wouldn't boot after restarting. We tried a flash-from-USB, which was successful (in that we were able to flash the firmware) but the unit still won't complete a boot.

I've since pulled the drives and put them in an NV+ chassis (which works) we keep for testing/recovery. On the NV+, it gets as far as "Booting..." and I can SSH into the unit, but Frontview doesn't come up, the volume isn't mounted, etc. I've tried pulling each drive in sequence to see if any one of them was blocking boot, to no avail. The LEDs (drive 1 blinking, 2-4 steady, power pulsating) seem to indicate the drive in slot 1 is the problem, but the presence/absence of that drive makes no difference.

We have a backup (which I've restored to the 1100, after putting all new disks in it) but I'd like to recover the past day's work. If I can't do it via the ReadyNAS itself, is it possible to mount this volume on a x86 Linux PC? I've seen notes on how to do this with fuseext2, but I'd really rather not go that far.

dmesg shows the following.

Linux version 2.6.17.14ReadyNAS (root@calzone) (gcc version 3.3.5 (Infrant 3.3.5-1)) #1 Thu Sep 1 17:44:33 PDT 2011

Open a tech support case at my.netgear.com and post the case number.

    What's the output of

    # df -h
    # cat /var/log/raidiator_version

Note that a USB Boot Recovery flashes the firmware on the flash it doesn't update the firmware on the disks. An OS Re-install would re-install the firmware from the flash onto the disks (I would suggest waiting for advice from support before trying that though).

  • file2:~# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/hdc1 1.9G 450M 1.4G 23% /
    tmpfs 16k 0 16k 0% /USB
    file2:~# cat /var/log/raidiator_version
    RAIDiator!!version=4.1.6,time=1247518584

That's interesting. It was at 4.1.6 before we attempted the 4.1.9 upgrade. USB flash was using the 4.1.8 .img file.

    I'll open a case directly.
