Upgrading NVX - Should I or ??

I have an older ReadyNAS NVX, that has just been used for backup files, I would now like to use it as a file server for Video movies, Photos, as well as backup.
It seems it is running 4.2.27, This must be old software/firmware?

To use this as a media server as well, should I / Can I upgrade to the latest version of software, or should I switch to something new like (Synology Diskserver) ?

I have been a die hard ReadyNAS user until a few years back, when I thought support for it was waning ??

THANK YOU !!

  • Evidently I have RAIDIATOR 4.2.26 version, is this upgradeable to the newer Verion 6.XX, or is my processor limiting the upgrade path??
  • There are several forum sections which deal with running OS6 on legacy units. Have a look at them.
Running OS6 won't make your readynas any better at doing the things you want it to do.

The NVX should be able to handle what you want it to. Transcoding HD video would require something faster.

I think readynas still leads the pack when it comes to looking after your data, which after all is the primary function of a nas.

OS6 is not available for systems with Intel 32-bit CPUs (NVX, 1500, 2100v1) so it won't run on your NVX.

4.2.27 is the latest production release for the NVX and there is a 4.2.28 beta.
