Upload performance Mac to Readynas dramatic!

Hi,

I Have a Readynas Duo V2, a Macbook Pro (and other Mac hardware), a Netgear WNDR3700 router and a tested wired Gigabitnetwork (Cat6). When I upload a file of 1 GB it doesn't get any higher than 4 - 6 Mb/s upload speed!! From Readynas to MBpro it reaches 41 MB/s.

How is this possible? How can I increase my upload speed??

I use AFP not CIFS.

BTW, please don't double-post. I deleted the duplicate.

In Frontview, go to the system->performance menu.

Try enabling the write cache, disabling journaling, and enabling fast CIFS writes.

Does that change the write performance?
  • First I want to say sorry for the double post. I didn't know I had done this until I noticed the double post. Thanks for deleting 1!
Do I have to disable full data journaling aswell?

The performance just went up a little. The funny thing I have notices is that uploading over wifi is faster as over cable. Of Wifi i gets around 10 - 11MB/s

Disabling journaling should also disable full data journaling.

Do you have jumbo frames enabled? If so, try turning them off. The WNDR3700 doesn't support them.
  • Indeed both were disabled.

Jumbo frames was enabled... I turned this off and..... upload is 30MB/s!!!!!!Download is 40+MB/s!!!!!

    Yes thats more like it!!!!

    Thanks for your help!!!

Do you have any other good tips considering the performance?

Do you have a UPS connected to the NAS? If you have the "Disable Journaling" option checked you should have a UPS connected.

You are pretty much at the highest performance level you can reach with the duo v1.

If you don't have a UPS, I suggest that you get one. You can lose your data if you have an unexpected power loss, especially if journaling is disabled.

You should get one with a USB cable, so the NAS can monitor it - then the NAS will shutdown before the battery drains completely.
