URGENT software 4.1.12 gets corrupted over time
I've experienced the following problems at least twice with two different Sparc based Readynas devices, a NV+ and a Duo, so in total at least four times. The NV+ is my own, the Duo belongs to my brother. There is no connection between both networks.
It starts with vague (Windows 7) accessibility problems, a directory can not be opened, a share can not be found etc. After that we get the following sequence of events:
I have never experience problems like these with older version of Raidiator. Both Readynas device are standard devices, they only have 1GB memory instead of the standard 256MB.
What can be the cause of these problems?
It starts with vague (Windows 7) accessibility problems, a directory can not be opened, a share can not be found etc. After that we get the following sequence of events:
- Raidar and Frontview do not show the software version 4.1.12.
- It is not possible to browse the Readynas with Raidar.
- It is not possible to shutdown the Readynas from Frontview, it's only possible using the on/off button.
- After the reboot the software version still is not visible.
- It is possible now to shutdown the device from Frontview. I did so with a file system check (no errors).
- The only way to get everything back as it should be is to reinstall the 4.1.12 software.
- After that is is a matter of waiting for several weeks until the problem reappears.

- grunnsatAspirantI was running 4.1.13[rc1] lately, and today I experienced the same problem as before, problems with accessing files, Raidar doesn't see the software version etc.
I tried to have a look at the logs, but the Readynas said "no logs exist". Saving the log files had the same result. Trying to shutdown using the GUI (frontview) didn't work, so I had to use the power button to shutdown and reboot.
After the reboot I was able to save logfiles, and after that I upgraded to 4.1.13.
In the saved system log file I found these entries:- /var/log/auth.log: No space left on device
- /var/log/cron.log: No space left on device
- /var/log/kern.log: No space left on device
The auth.log and kern.log warnings appeared many times.
After I found these entries I cleared the log files, and that made the Frontview window appear much quicker.
I also found this in the system log file:Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01NEON flash: probing 8-bit flash bus
Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01 kernel: CFI: Found no NEON flash device at location zero
Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01 kernel: NEON flash: unknown flash device, mfr id 0x1, dev id 0x0
Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01 kernel: NEON flash: Found no Atmel device at location zero
Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01 kernel: This board is not supported.
Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01 kernel: You can use parm_extport=X module parm.
Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01 kernel: ID=6013 on i2c_addr=1f
Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01 kernel: GPIO2X=7c
Oct 23 01:15:05 readynas-01 kernel: lcd:driver loaded
Don't know what to think of this "error".
