What firmware is the NAS running?
A duo v1 can use a 2 TB drive (which I use in my own Duo). But it can't handle disks larger than that (since it doesn't support GPT or advanced format disks). There is no workaround.

As noted above, ssh won't help you use disks > 2 TB.
However, your issue is almost certainly that you are using the wrong username. You log in as root, using the NAS admin password.
