Using RAIDar to change IP address

Is there anyway to use RAIDar to change the IP address of my NV+? I just changed the IP address of my router, and I need to change the IP address and gateway information for the NV+. Is there a simple way to change that information without having to go through a factory reset?

You can't use RAIDar for this (though that is a nice idea!)

    Do you have a V1 (4.1.x firmware) or a V2 (5.x.x) firmware?

You have two options. One is to do an firmware (OS) reinstall from the NV+ front panel. That will reset the IP configuration to use DHCP, and also reset your admin password to the factory value. Be careful not to do a factory reset, which will wipe your data.

The second option is to directly connect the NAS to a PC, and temporarily set the IP address of the PC to something in the old address range. Then you can reach the NAS admin page using its IP address and reset the IP config.
  • Thanks, I forgot about the OS reset, and of course now that I have that going, life would have been so much more easier if I had run across you post and just changed my ip my my laptop. It has been awhile... What is the default user/pass when doing an OS Update?

*** Strike that, I now remember... Thanks for the earlier pointer...
  • If you have the NV+ set to use DHCP, that should not be a problem, as the router should provide that information.

If you have the NV+ IP address set manually, that should not cause a problem, unless it is set to a low number. My IP addresses are set to use a static number but the final number is in the 2xx range which eliminates a conflict since the routers don't usually get that high. I have changed my router twice with upgrades since I have set mine and have not had a problem yet (including changing from Linksys to Netgear two years ago and upgrading my Netgear to a faster one this year).

Well almost. It becomes a problem if the router address range changes - For instance from 192.168.0.x to 192.168.1.x. Then the static address won't work.

BTW, 2xx is fine, but be careful not to use x.x.x.255. That is a broadcast address.

This problem comes up often enough in the forum. Being able to change it in RAIDar (with the NAS/ADMIN password) would be elegant, though it mightrequire some clever programming.
