Vertical Expansion of Ready NAS with RAID5 by mistake

We are currently using Ready NAS 1100 with 4 hard disks (1TB, 750GB, 1TB & 750GB) with RAID5 configuration. Without knowing this fact, we tried to expand the hard disk capacity by inserting 4x2TB HDDs. Now the total hard disk capacity shown is the same as before. How to solve this issue without resetting the NAS.

  • 4.0.1 firmware was released back in medieval times, and doesn't support 2 TB drives.

Upgrade to 4.1.14.  To get full expansion and best performance you will then need to do a factory reset, rebuild the NAS and reload the data from backup.  That's because the block size needed to change in order to support 2 TB disks, and that can't be done w/o destroying the data volume.  Also, ideally you want 4K sector alignment (which also requires a reset).

    What firmware are you running?

Is the RAID set up as XRAID or FlexRaid?
