Hi StephenB--
Busy weekend, didn't have time to experiment much. I did determine that leaving Windows firewall on, but turning TrendMicro off, the problem goes away. So I think it is some TrendMicro update in the last couple of weeks that has caused this issue, something about the way TM interacts with the Windows firewall. I've posted in their forums and will start a trouble ticket with them if I need to. If I can't get a solution from them, I'm going to try excepting the ports you specified--or I might try that anyway.
I do appreciate all the help you've been giving me, and will report back if/when I get a final resolution to this problem.
