Volume expansion failed - 2790 GB * (6-1) = 3690 GB
I have just set up a ReadyNAS Ultra 6.
Loaded with 6 x Seagate ST3000DM001-9YN166 drives.
RAID5.
RAIDiator 4.2.22
This doesn't look right. What can I do to correct it?

I clicked "Expand volume", and the "allocated" number of each drive increased, but not the total volume size.
A reboot + volume scan did not do any difference either.
I would expect a little bit less than 13.9 TB capacity total. 3.6 TB seems way off.
Edit to add: I found this in the log.
Tue Nov 27 11:43:50 PST 2012 Volume expansion failed
Tue Nov 27 11:43:45 PST 2012 Volume expansion started. Do not interrupt the system during this time. When finished, email notification will be sent to the alert contact list.
Can't say I find that very informative. Does anyone have any suggestions to what it means (why did it fail?) and what can be done about it?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThis is a new setup?
Do a factory default via System > Update > Factory Default. Note a factory default wipes all data, settings, everything so backup your data first.
Most likely your unit shipped with 4.2.15 or earlier. You installed 6x3TB disks and they were recognised as having very roughly 750GB of capacity. This gave you your volume capacity of 3690 GB.
You then updated the firmware and it recognised the full capacity of each disk.
There is an 8TB online expansion limit over the life of the volume. Since 3690 GB + 8192 GB is less than what the NAS is trying to expand the volume to expansion has failed.
Best to do the factory default to get a clean setup on 4.2.22 - Marto731AspirantHi, I had a similar case recently.
I advised customer to go to V4.2.19, as I wasn't comfortable in a F/w jump from V4.2.15 to
V4.2.22. Factory default done after, and Volume, approx 11 Tera became available.
Regards Marto,
Netgear Tech support - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredJumping from 4.2.15 to 4.2.22 should work fine. THe problem here is adding 3TB disks before updating to 4.2.16 (or later). All Soulkeeper needs to do is backup the data already loaded onto the device and do a factory default.
