If someone can see the traffic along the route path, then they could in principle read the magic packet (which has the ReadyNAS mac address inside). If you were to use an unsecured wifi link in a hot spot, this would certainly be possible.
I don't think that is a very big threat - the only impact is that you would use a little more electricity than you want.
