WD Red 8TB WD80EFZX - anyone install them yet?
Has anyone installed WD Red 8TB WD80EFZX drives yet? If so, any issues? I read a few reviews that said they ran hot, made more noise than other drives and had non-standard mounting holes. I have to move some hard drives around and figured this be a good time to grab two 8TB drives and move my 4TB drives over to my older NAS. On a side note, is there a section on this forum for selling your older hard drives? I might not have an immediate need for it but after a while I may be knee deep in older drives with little to no use for them. :smileyvery-happy:

I've installed three in my RN524x (one was previously in an RN102, the other was in an RN202).
They do have alternative mounting holes on the bottom, but they also have the center hole on the side, so I was able to keep the plastic inserts.
I've had no issues with either temps or noise. They've been running the disk test for about 10 hours, and they have heated up to ~45C with the fan set to quiet. But normally they are pretty close in temperature to the WD60EFRX (perhaps 1-2C warmer).

Good to hear so I placed my order for two WD80EFZX and should have them in the next few days. I'll be replacing Disk 1 & Disk 2 with the 8TB drives and moving the 4TB drives to my Ultra4+ to replace two 2TB drives. I'll keep an eye on the temp/noise but expect them to be inline with previous RED drives from WD. Although, my current 4TB drives are a bit lower at 31-34C with the fan set to Cool.

After the disk test completed, my temps dropped to 32C. My WD60EFRX are in an adjacent RN526 and are running between 31-33C. I think you'll end up in the 34-37 range (slightly higher than your WD40EFRX).
One thing I have noticed - OS 6 doesn't always report the smart stats for these drives. Sometimes the temps are missing, and when I click on the "green ball" icon I see -1 for reallocated sectors, etc. smartctl does show them when I use ssh, so this is a bit puzzling. I reported it a while ago, but haven't seen any response from Netgear (or any fix).
