WD Tv live freezes/crashes accessing network shares help

Hey guys

I just bought myself a wdtv live after upgrading from the older wdtv. The old one worked great I was able to access network shares easily with no problems which was good as it had all my videos divided into folders etc.

However my new wdtv live crashes/freezes every time I select any of the shares. I can access my videos through media shares but that just gives me one long list of videos not divided into respective folders and not all my videos that are in other folders. If that makes sence.

I have the latest firmware on both devices, no passwords required for the shares and I can access the shares via my iPad and computers.

Any help would be great.

  • Sorry, I cant help, but I do see the same problem. I swapped out my old WDTV for a new WDTV last night and its unable to find the ReadyNAS Duo shares that it could see when I was using the older WDTV. The CIFS (Windows share) just keeps scanning until i stop it. I enabled read/write for NFS for it to find it through linux share. It can see that IP address/ Share now but now just hangs when I try to open the share (media) from Video or Music.

I've tried adding a folder under media library but that hangs too, with no results after 6 hours wait.

Update: I enabled ReadyDLNA so i can now see it under media servers (instead of network shares). This seems to do a scan of content and adds it to a database to make it available. I'll see how this performs with new content updates.
  • I am in the same boat. Had the gen1 of the WDTV (worked like magic) and I recently bought the new WDTV Live to upgrade. I am massively regretting this so far (if it aint broke...), prob should have bought the Apple TV to play with.

The interface is nicer, but what am I really getting? I didnt mind the folder layout, and it was fast. This seems to be more fancy, less function.

I also cant get the network shares to mount, i get stuck at the same place.

If Plex had a real interface for this like they suggested, it would be a winner. If it doesnt improve soon its going to eBay.
  • I've bought new WDTV for my father. There is a setting to download and update your metadata. Turn off that sh*t. It took over an hour for WD to scan 1TB drive and I coudn't stop this process.
Besides that you could try to set manually speed and duplex on the port where your WD is connected instead of auto negotiation.
