If you bought a Volkswagen and Volkswagen said to you "We advise you to use the original engine; if you change it, things may not work properly and we will not be prepared to help you if something goes wrong"; would you go ahead and change the engine and then expect them to help you?
I personally don't think Netgear are being that unreasonable.
4.1.x is not as pretty as OS6, but it works well, I don't think anyone on the forums would advise using OS6 on a legacy device that contains your primary data.
Of course not, but that's not what i was saying (i apologize for my english, it's hard for me to explain myself as i'd like to)
Company and products sellers offers generally two differents things :
- The warranty on the product itself, that allow the customer to get his product replaced or repaired, if the warranty is still active, and if the warranty conditions has been respected (not my case, my warranty is out, i did not respect the conditions and terms, i've installed the SSH commands and more. No problem, as i said, i was not expecting them to replace or repair my product. And in fact, this product will directly go to my trash)
- A support service (generally a not free service, such as a taxed phone service), where the customer call to get assistance from experts, to get some informations on what they wan't to do.
We can compare NetGear as Hosting companies. Hosting companies delivers products. Theses products can be bought or rent. The warranty offers a security on the product itself, with some conditions, the support (generally not free, as i said), offers a service from experts & techniciens to manage your product, even if your product is out of warranty (of course, because you will pay this service)
There is clearly a big misunderstanding from NetGear on their support that make one of the worst from a such so big company.
I would have accepted to pay a bit to get the informations that i was needing. I think this is something important that they have to understand quickly if they wan't to grow up on the international market (even if they are already in ...)
So, that's why, Mdgm, you will receive a donation from me. This is a low one, i'm sorry, i'm actually really out of budget theses days, but i feel that this is important to support you and your work here, for making the work that NetGear does NOT want to do.
Cheers.
