What's the simplest way to copy files to USB drive
Hi,
I want to copy about 100GB of data from ReadyNAS NVX to usb hard drive. I have attached the drive and NVX recognized it and I can access it as a share from my Windows PC.
But if I copy data from one share to another from my PC, a believe the data will go over the network, which is slow.
The point of attaching USB drive is that the transfer should be much faster then over the network.
Is there any simple way of copying data between ReadyNAS shares (c drive) and ReadyNAS attached USB drive directly?
I'm not familiar with linux and terminal, and I would prefer some GUI, especially when I plan to do this more often.

I thought about it, but I found it time consuming, especially when I'm not copying always from the same share or folder, but picking files and folders here and there.
I can map ReadyNAS c drive as share and easily copy between the shares without involving network, but I still cannot copy between usb drive and ReadyNAS share drive.
Any other ideas?
What's the most common way people copy data to usb drive? - bthoemAspirantHi - I was going to ask about the same, but the other way around.
What's the simplest and fastest way to copy files from USB to the ReadyNas?
Is it possible to connect the USB as a source to the ReadyNAS and use a filemanager to copy the files to it's respective folders?
Bjørn Tore - chirpaLuminaryYou would want to initiate the copy from the NAS, either via the built-in backup manager, or a third-party add-on.
If you use Explorer or something over the network to copy, it would not be efficient (NAS -> PC -> NAS).
Few third-party file manager add-ons: http://www.readynas.com/?cat=65 - nkasicAspirant

I have installed third party file manager Xplorer aka Ajaxplorer http://readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=30795&start=0#p169617 and it shows default files, but I cannot see c drive with shares, nor usb drives.
Should I try some other, simpler file manager?
I really don't need all the fancy stuff it has. Just ability to pick files and folders from different shares and copy them to usb drive (and vice versa), avoiding network. - bthoemAspirantOK - but will the box mount the USB drive an make it available to a file manager like this, to copy from the USB to the NAS file system?

I'm trying to figure it out.
I have tried one more, Explore Board with no luck. It opens empty window.
Uninstalled.
Two more to go. - bsditAspirantI'm also attempting to do the same thing.
I installed the PHP Addon and have tried AjaXplorer (Xplorer), ExplorerBoard, eXtplorer and PHP Navigator with no success.
Sadly it doesn't look like there is an addon available to copy from a C Drive Share on the ReadyNAS to a USB Stick. :(
Only in ExplorerBoard can I see the shares down to file level but all copying would be through the network and not from the NAS HDD to the USB Stick direct. - Nas_RAspirantSimple and quickest way is to use ssh with MC (midnight commander)
you need to install MC first on your NAS
The interface looks like this:
