Actually, there are many different useful apps for your Mac, but it's up to you which of them may indeed be necessary.
I use Witch (manytricks.com/witch), Archiver (http://archiverapp.com), CleanMyMAc - (macpaw.com/cleanmymac) and PixelMator (www.pixelmator.com) and I find them essential for me, as they make the process of using my Mac easier!
I'd advice you to choose apps according to your personal needs - at least, that's what the elder brother once told me:)
