Why upgrade to OS6?
Sorry if this is a silly question but there are so many threads to read and I haven't come across a simple summarisation regards the benefits of upgrading to OS6.
I have an ultra 4 plus that I use as a home Central storage for pics, docs, XBMC movie storage. I am playing with the idea of OS6. I've read about issues that have been faced and then overcome. The thread on instructions to upgrade is locked and hadn't been been updated for a few years.
Can someone:
1. Summarise the RISKS and BENEFITS of upgrading to OS6 as things standing at this moment.
2. Link me to the latest instructions please. The more idiot proof the better.
Any owners of the ultra 4 plus please feel free to reassure /dissuade me.
All help appreciated.

There is a significant price gap between the RN300 and the RN500, and between the RN500 and the RN700. Perhaps that is why there is space in the numbering. The new RN200 is clearly intended to fill the price gap between the RN100 and RN300.
I think you will find that OS6 is somewhat slower than OS4 on your ultra, especially on disk writes. btrfs is focused more on data safety than on highest performance.
What performance are you seeing on the ultra?
On my Ultra 6 OS6 is way faster than on OS4, is it only me? 4gb Kingston ram the only upgrade i did on it. - XophileAspirantHi! I've used OS6 on my Ultra 4 since June 2014. Never had any major issues at all. Fan speeds work fine, absolutely no problem. With OS4 I did use an USB attached printer but since that's not supported in Legacy OS6 I simple connected it to my router instead.
I enjoy the new graphical layout in the OS and it feels a little more "future proof" in regards to security etc.
I did have some file access troubles on one folder but this forum helped me to quickly resolve it.
I use my Ultra 4 mainly to store pictures and share media, mostly FLAC-media from my own music collection. I also use Subsonic and Mysql for XBMC (Now known as Kodi). - waledAspirantJust to update.
My Ultra 4 Plus on OS6 has been fully restored and been running for almost a full week now.
Everything has been running smoothly, fan speed very regular at around 1770rpm, and not one hiccup.
So very happy and well worth doing.
My views on OS6
Very fast to navigate compared to OS4.
Love the ability to manipulate everything in the browser. i.e create files/ rename/ cut and paste/ browse etc.
Can do lots on my iPad rather than switching on a windows laptop. Useful for KODI database management
The ability to monitor the performance is also a nice interesting option.
There is just so much more compared to OS4
And it looks easy on the eye too.
Can someone clarify this for me
Can I add any size HDD now without factory reset?
Is the antivirus worth keep on? How does it work? Does it have any impact on transfer speeds?
How to update future firmware? Does it update as per any other supported OS6 device or do I manually update each time?

The disks you add need to be the same capacity as existing disks or larger. OS6 for x86_64 does not have the expansion limitations which RAIDiator-x86 4.2.x had.waled wrote:

Depends how you use the NAS.waled wrote:

It scans your files for viruses.waled wrote:

Yes it may.waled wrote:

Yes, when an update is put on our update server and you open the Dashboard you will be prompted to update. You can follow the prompts to update. Alternatively you can use the same image used for our current x86_64 images to manually update.waled wrote:

The OS4 to OS6 image is only used as a one-off. The header is modified to make it appear to be OS4 firmware so RAIDiator-x86 4.2.x will accept it. Likewise the downgrade image to go back to 4.2.x is modified to appear to be a 6.2.x image so OS6 will accept it. - XophileAspirant

Hi!
Just curious, what do you mean with Kodi management?
I've been thinking about configuring Mysql since I use Kodi on three different devices currently.
Thanks! - waledAspirantThank you @mgdm

Sorry to confuse. Nothing complicated for me. I just use the NAS as an smb share with all the movies on it for the streamer.
I meant for adding from transmission, renaming to for the scraper, deleting watched movies etc.. - waledAspirantAre there any add ons or ways to have a ReadyNAS share sync with one drive or Google drive? Without the need for an intermediary PC?
This would be the icing on the cake for me. :D - mangroveApprenticeWell, you could always install OwnCloud 8, it can sync with Dropbox and Google Drive. Not Onedrive (yet).
Might be overkill though. :) - waledAspirantThx, I'll have a look.
