WIN 10 Slow Directory enumeration SMB
After upgrading to Win 10, access to my ReadyNas 312 has become problematic. When I browse to a share in explorer, it takes a long time to display the share contents (10-60 seconds). This becomes faster sometimes if I browse to the same directory within a short period of time, but browsing to a new share involves a lot of time and the green bar in the explorer window creeping across the screen before the contents are fineally displayed. This also effects file lockouts. I can close a file that I opened from the server and it can take from 1-2 minutes for the file to be released for deletion/modification. Even from file save dialogs within programs it can take some time to display directory contents and to save documents.
File transfer as a whole is speedy. My backups that are directed to a particular directory every time, and my password program that points to a specific file without opening a file dialog/explorer window work instantaneously. Transfer rates are very good.
I tried accessing the server from a Win 7 laptop and everything is fine and share windows open almost immediately. This is starting to make me thing that there is a problem with my Win 10 PC. The Win 10 PC is connected to the same Gig switch as the server, and the Win 7 laptop is wireless. It has taken so long to access that at times the process times out and Win throws an error saying that the server is unresponsive or unable to reach the server, etc.
I have rolled back the NIC driver on the Win 10 pc but that made no difference. I have run the network troubleshooting tool to troubleshoot the adapter and it says ( and never has before) "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer" and specifically "Windows Sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing." When I click "Try these repairs as an administrator" it says it has fixed the issue. If the troubleshooter is run again, the problem still appears. I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem, but thought it might be relevant.
The NAS is running 6.4.1. I tend to think that this may not be a problem with the server, but also though that some of you network gurus may have run into this and may be of assistance. I appreciate any insight you may offer.
Thanks!
Update: I turned off the ReadyNAS anti-virus and removed network and file access permissions on the one share I had them on. All started working well. So I then turned back on the network-access permissions (left file-access alone since if you can't access the share over the network then who cares about the file-access... I think). Still everything is going well. So now I guess my next move will be to turn on anti-virus again.

Are you using Kaspersky Internet Security 2016?

No I am not. I have also turned off my Norton Internet Security with no positive effect.

Did you try the troubleshooter with Norton turned off?
You could also try running "cmd" and then entering
netsh winsock reset
It will prompt for a reboot. After it completes, try using the troubleshooter again.

Just a short update.
It turns out that my Windows 7 laptop actually has the same issue as the Win 10 desktop. This is still driving me crazy. Do you think there is any chance that this is a faulty OS load on the Server?
