Windows 8.1 can't see NAS
Radiator 4.2.25
NVX+
I have two windows 8.1 machines which can't see my NAS drive (\\NAS2) in Windows Explorer or from any other program which browses for a drive.
I CAN access the drive and folders by using it's IP address i.e. \\192.168.1.xx in Windows Explorer.
I can NOT map a network drive to it by using the IP address or name.
My two windows 7 machines see the NAS just fine. Functions absolutely perfectly.
Radiator discovers the drive just fine.
I can ping the drive.
I've disabled the firewall.
The DNLA portion of the NAS shows up under Media Servers and that functionality works perfectly.
Extensive googling provides suggestions from re-installing Window 8.1 to standing on your right foot, touching your nose, with your left index finger, while facing south, on a Thursday at exactly 12.01:30 - I.E. Nothing works! Does anybody have a sure-fire way to fix this? I know, I know, I know - Microsoft probably added a "feature" in 8.1 which is causing an incompatibility between it and the ReadyNas.
Please help...

How can one see what workgroup the computer and NAS are in? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserOn the computer, right click on the "computer" or "my computer" icon.
What NAS do you have? - avpman1AspirantRadiator 4.2.25

I hope someone can help. Am I the only person having this problem? Once again, the 8.1 computers have no problem seeing each other or the win 7 computers. The win 7 computers are the only ones with access to the NAS as laid out in the O.P. - JothredboAspirantHi avpman, see the post re similar situation with OS6 and the RN300 series devices - http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=154&t=74891
I do also have an NVX+ Raidiator 4.2.25 which is however not having any issue at all being seen by the windows 8.1 pc when logged on using the Microsoft Account option (email address username). What I would suggest is looking at your user account situation in so far as if you are using Microsoft Account to login maybe set up and try the Local Account option or vice versa. I believe the similar issue we are experiencing is related to this in so far as OS6 is concerned. I obviously don't believe it is an issue for the older device running 4.2.25 but then again maybe it is and in your case at the moment it obviously is. - avpman1AspirantI saw that post previously. I am using the Local Account login option on both 8.1 machines. I looked into the SMB Plus app for X86 but it downloads from the forum as a .deb file. When I try to install it as an add-on I get an invalid package message. Is there another way to install it or is it not compatible with the NVX?
One other interesting note: my Mac os/x 10.8.5 CAN see and access the NAS just fine. - ScottChapmanApprenticeThat's interesting I am having the same issue with my windows 8.1 machines.
net view \\<host> often shows nothing using IP address works fine...
All machines (and NAS) are in same workgroup.
I am currently running 6.1.6RC10
And I have done an apt-get update apt-get upgrade and rebooted several times.
Not sure what to do at this point, isn't a name resolution thing, seems like a netBIOS/Samba/nm thing - avpman1Aspirant

Scott - by any chance did you ever find a resolution for this? I'm still banging my head against the wall for the same issue. - ScottChapmanApprenticeNot yet. I did discover that my samba on the NAS is crashing all the time, so I am sure that's it. I have a log, just trying to figure out how to fix it...
You can follow it here: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=75014
(though check your logs and see if you see the same)
