windows not showing ReadyNAS name in network
My windows systems (win7 & 8.1) are not showing my ReadyNAS when I browse the network:

Hello, I'm not sure if this reply is in the correct spot but after searching for a solution myself I read many of the comments here I also have had problems over the last few days since upgrading the Firmware to 6.4.1 on my NAS RN202 - I wasn't sure if was a Windows (10) update that caused it or something else but everything changed and my NAS202 stopped showing up under 'Network' - I was able to improve this by moving some files and folders into different directories as it seemed that the more files the unit had to refresh (or what ever the NAS does) the more often it couldn't find things, I also found that some of my permissions seemed different (always take a screenshot of what works) but the REAL kicker was when I discovered that under Accounts >> Authentication >> Workgroup Name: this had somehow become VOLUME... I would never have called it this opting for the more obvious choice of WORKGROUP... once I changed this everything started working correctly again including on my Laptop connect wirelessly to the network. Might be something to check :-)

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI guess you could try stopping the NAS from attempting to become the master browser.
- ScottChapmanApprenticeSeems like it would be good for it to be master browser since it is on 24/7 and my other computers are not.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredO.K.
Sounds like the problem must be something else then. - ScottChapmanApprenticeYea, SMB is a bit of black magic, no idea how it ever works. Though it appeared to work in 6.1.9
- aksVirtuosoI have a Duo v1 and NV+ v2, and both are currently not shown on Win 7 network browse session. But they have appeared in the past, and sometimes appear if i refresh and wait quite a while. When they appear, I see multiple entries as mentioned by StephenB, i.e. computer, storage, media, etc. If I enter the unit name or IP address, they are accessible all ok.
I think it changes if I reboot the switch between my PC and NASes, but I can't try that immediately, so maybe something kicks the networking interfaces on either end to reestablish reasonable communication? - aksVirtuosoI just tried browsing my network from my Win 7 PC, and my boxes *did* show up under "storage" but accessing through that just brings the management webpage. They didn't show up under anything else.
I rebooted the switch (Netgear GS108) and voila, both NASes show up under "Computer" and "Media Device" in the same network browser window.
Something triggers the NASes to start up (from idle/sleep, not power down), and once they are up they appear. I have no idea why! - ScottChapmanApprenticeI've rebooted numerous times without any change. I will try rebooting network and see if that has any impact.
- ScottChapmanApprenticerebooting PCs, network, NAS has no effect for me.
- aksVirtuosoAll my NAS devices are still showing up fine today, and on multiple PCs! It's a bit of a mystery.
- ScottChapmanApprenticeAre you running IPv6 on your network?
