XenServer VDI limit 256Gb via iSCSI

Hi Folks,

First post so forgive me if I've done this wrong or missed something.

I'm at IT bod during the day and like to take my work home with me, as part of this I have a XenServer 6.2sp1 box (i5 quad 32Gb). I wanted to move away from local storage so bought a NAS104 as this had advertised Citrix XenServer 6 support for its iSCSI stack. Yes I know its low end but for what I need (Firewall/DLNA/TimeMachine VM storage it is more than enough).

I have configured my RN104 with 4 x 2Tb WD Green drives and updated to the latest software 6.1.6. I can quite happily create a iSCSI target/extent (lun/lun group in RN speak) and add same to my XenServer install.

Now for the problem, so long as I create Virtual disks no larger than 256Gb on the storage repository it works perfectly giving ~65Mb/s using and mtu of 9000.

However is I instead create a VDI of 257Gb the disk appears to be created, appearing in the SR VDI list, however the VM to which it is attached fails to start returning an error after a extended pause of 'VDI cannot be found'.

To verify that the iSCSI stack on the XenServer initiator is working correctly I built a NAS4Free Server, again 4x2Tb, same target/extent config etc. With this I can happily create VDI's up to 2Tb.

If I use NFS instead of iSCSI on the 104 and the corresponding NFS SR in XenServer I have no problems creating VDI beyond 256Gb.

Does anyone have any pointers on fixing my iSCSI issue?

Cheers
