I just purchased a CM2050V (It wasn't listed in the suggested models above). It advertises 2.5Gbps speeds, but is shipped with a Cat5e cable. Cat5e will not support 2.5Gbps. That modem needs to be shipped with cat 6 or above in the box.

sure it will. Cat 5e will support 2.5gig speeds up to 100ft.

I haven't seen that from what I looked up today.

I'm not sure where you looked but here's a couple just from a quick look. I can also attest to it working as my home is wired with cat 5e and I can connect at 2.5gig speeds to my CAX80, RAX200, and RAXE500.

Well thanks for the links. I searched for cat 5e max speed or something like that. Your last link from 2016 suggeststhat this is a more recent standar. that could be why I didn't see the new numbers. The articles I saw must have been written before that.thank you for the info.

I just purchased a CM2050V modem and had the same question regarding the included CAT5e patch cable. So, does the CM2050V modem physically operate to that 2.5G/5GBASE-T standard? If so, is that why the CAT5e patch cable included with the modem (and wired in my house) will allow up to 2.5G speed? From those articles, it appears the 100 MHz bandwidth limitation of CAT5e will still apply. I think that means a much smaller than normal "pipe" for data to flow through than would be available for a CAT6a or CAT7 cable normally used for >1 gig speeds. I believe that may result in more errors but not sure how that will affect real-world usage. Maybe less users/devices can be on the internet at one time.

Yes and if you want good connection rates, it's recommended to use CAT6A STP cabling to get too speeds and operation at 2.5Gb speeds.
You can use CAT6A for 1Gb speeds as well. what I have been using for years in wall and externally in past couple of months. Zero errors using CAT6A STP.
