NETGEAR is aware of a growing number of phone and online scams. To learn how to stay safe click here.
In Australia the National Broadband Network is being rolled out and people have to connect to it or be disconnected from telecommunicatons. The major ISP insists that you use thiersuppleid router or loose support and the phone landline. This router has numerous problems: no MAC access list, 5G WiFi stopps after 2 days, poor DHCP, provides public WiFi hotspot which reduces an already poor bandwidth, no VoIP configuration, and there are other problems. A lot of people are trying to put another router downstream from this one to take over most functions. The R6220 that I use must be in Access Point mode. If put in bridge mode I loose the landline. The R6220 in AP mode disables the MAC access list. Please reinstate the MAC access list. Most people in Australia would be greatful.

The feature request is asking Netgear to change the world of Access Points. It also seems to be based on some misconceptions about NBN.
But the good news is that you will not need this feature.

The ability to use different hardware depends on the flavour of NBN you have.
What is an NBN network and is my NETGEAR DSL modem router compatible? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Some people happily use Netgear modems and routers on NBN. The R6220 seems to be compatible with most versions of NBN.
There are plenty of discussions about NBN elsewhere in the support forums.
Nor do you need to use an AP to work with whatever NBN modem you have. Some people happily put their modem into modem only (bridge) mode and then use their R6220, or whatever device they own, as a router.

There are other issues that I havent commented upon, such as it is manditory that the VoIP landline be preserved for an elderly parent. Setting the ISPs gateway (modem/router combo) to bridge mode looses landline ability.
Its just that it would be nice to have that extra layer of security as the ISPs gateway does not provide it. I was hoping that it would be as simple as setting a logical switch in the firmware, but if it is far more complicated than that, I can stick with what I have got.
What made me assume that it was possible with very little work is that the EX6200 that I have can do MAC access list in AP mode and I view it as a lesser capable black box than the R6220 router. The EX6200 is on the preiphery of the logical network where as the R6220 is its central hub.
