C7000v2 Slow Download Speed at installation

At installation getting about 10mbps download vice 100+.  With another router of this model I had to call support and they had me get to a cmd prompt and type in something I don't remember.  I think it included a channel or code, something like 1500 or 1450.  Then the ping or packets, cant remember which, were checked.  It was bad and they had me type in the same code, but this time with a channel 1496 or 1446, something like that (they dropped the channel a couple of numbers) and checked the ping or packets again.  It was not good and they had me drop the channel (or whaterver it was) a couple more numbers to 1492 or 1442 (something like that) and check the ping or packets again.  This time the ping or packets worked fine and since then my download speeds have been great.

Can anyone tell what this was about?  What is the right terminology?  How can I duplicate this for my additional modem.  The 90 day support on the modem has passed so I am trying to find out how to duplicate this without netgear's help.  Thanks.

First you're posting the the routers forum when you should be posting in the cable modem/router forum as you have a combo device.

so you're supposed to be getting 100mbps and you're only getting 10?

How are you testing this? Over wireless or hardwired?

We usually recommend people test over a hardwired device so we can first determine if its a signal issue to the modem or a wireless issue. Wireless requires different troubleshooting and it doesn't do much good if the incoming signal is the problem. so lets start at making sure you have full speeds to the device.

So what speeds are you getting over a wired connection?

    Who's your ISP?

If you log into your combo device, pull up the modem connections page. it'll have signal strengths for upload and download. Take a screen snip/screen shot of these. They help us determine if the signal coming into your residence is of good quality.

That sounds like an "MTU Size".

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "MTU".

Antinode,  thanks for the reply.  That certainly sounds like it, but when I logged into the genie, MTU is still set for 1500 on my modem-router--which is the one already fixed.  If it had been a lower number, I would figure that was definately it.  But, since it is still 1500, I am not sure.  I am supposed to work on my daughter's problem today.  I will just have to see how it goes.  Do you know what you would type into the cmd prompt to check packet drops on a specific MTU size?  1500, 1496, etc?  Anyway, thanks again.

Also, she and I are both using Cox.
