C7100v compatible with Comcast 900mbps

I have voice/internet/TV with Comcast, had had their 300mbps service, getting about 115mbps download and 23mbps upload speed on wifi on a 2020 Macbook Pro (802.11n/ac and no ethernet port) running Monterey 12.2.1 and Safari 15.3.  Hardware version 2.0, firmware v2.01.45. Purchased the c7100v from netgear.com two weeks ago, set it up this week. While getting a new plan witjh Comcast, I thought I'd try the 900 mbps for $10/mo more. My speeds have not changed. I called Netgear, was told to call Comcast and tell them that my downstream power should be higher and that they should lock all the upstream channels. 

I called Comcast, who said Netgear doesn't know what it's talking about. Despite the label saying "up to 960mbps" it can really only accommodate 800mbps, and the incompatibility will cause more and more problems, and I should return this one and purchase the CAX80 instead. 

Meanwhile I see others on this forum with Comcast and the same router who are getting 300-400mbps on 1000mbps plans, so where do I go from here? Call Comcast and ask about the power again? Call Comcast and tell them I want to return to the300mbps plan? Call Netgear and return this router for a different one? Call Verizon, return the Netgear and cancel Comcast?

Your power levels look fine. 

But you probably bought the wrong device if you're wanting close to gigabit speeds. 

The C7100v isn't docsis 3.1 (only 3.0) compatible and xfinity's (and other isp's) have been pushing to require docsis 3.1 devices for lower and lower speed tiers. I'm impressed they even said they'd allow it for their 800mbps tier as ISP's like cox are requiring docsis 3.1 for anything 400+. 

Also, you won't hit 400+ over wireless on that device. Only on wired. 

One thing you can do is power off the modem and disconnect it from the coax. Give it a couple minutes and then reconnect the coax and boot it back up. Maybe xfinity didn't push the correct provisioning to it (or push it at all). Something to check on.

You need to connect your mac book via ethernet to the modem to test higher speeds. They have inexpensive USB to ethernet adapters out there. I use one on mine. 

You'll not see anything near 900Mpbs on 5Ghz Wifi. Due to limitations on 5Ghz and AC mode and device support and design, most max top out at around 300-500Mpbs.

Exactly what I just did. Sold my C7100V and purchased a AX6000 to handle the speeds I wanted.

I was hoping to see a difference from the 300mbps service(actual download speed on mine of 120mbps). I was surprised to have minimal change. Spouse's work laptop (Windows) does have ethernet, got a speed of 250mbps wired. 50 on Wifi, on the alleged 900mbps plan.

I had spoken with Xfinity several times since the upgrade; they reset my modem twice. Hopefully they would have noticed if the upgrade hadn't actually gone through?? OTOH my spouse's laptop got a speed test result of 250mbps over ethernet. Hmmm..... I may make another call today

How are you testing the speed? 

On the hardwired computer, try using xfinity's speedtest site. 

And if you have more than 1 computer you can hardwire in, try that one as well in case its a computer issue.

I used speedtest at xfinity.com. This morning over wifi still using my Macbook Pro mfr 2020 (802.11a/b/g/n/ac) it was 101mbps. Also tried Ookla which gave download speed of 97.1, ping 12ms. I had tried last night with my spouse's Dell using an ethernet cable, got 250mbps on the xfinity speedtest. The only other computer we own with an ethernet port is a very old Macbook Pro (2012ish) that I can't get to power on. Called Xfinity again after trying Pleman's suggestion of unplugging the coaxial cable and modem power, then reattaching/restarting with, alas,  no improvement. CS rep said I really am getting the 900mbps service to the house. The Xfinity tech is coming on Friday to see if there's a wiring issue.

I am having similar issues.  I pay for 600 mbps, but only get 291 mbps per xfinity speed test.  

I am also having a xfinity rep come out to check stats.  Is there any setting within modem that I can change or do, to increase speeds?
