Dropping packets and extremely slow internet especially during peak hours

Hey,

Can someone take a look at my modem stats to see if anything looks out of whack? I don't know what most of this means, but I was hoping someone here would know. The modem has been running for about 15 days now. I've been getting extremely high ping, dropped packets and slow internet especially during peak hours. I'm paying for 75 m/bits used to get 85ish and now I'm getting 5 - 20. Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

You have a lot of errors in your line.
If you have any splitters, attenuators, amplifiers in the coax line, remove them. Also check the line for kinks, damage, poor/cheap connectors, bad lines, etc.

If you check all that and are still getting those levels, the ISp needs to check the line.

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute them back ON.

Be sure to check pings with out a external router connected to the modem. Use a wired PC directly connected to the modem.

I've done everything i can inside. Nothing has changed with my wiring and the ISP had me reset my modem about a million times. I've been trying to get a tech out, but they're really giving me the run around. I guess it must be something with their wiring.

many times the junction box on the house is/can be opened without damaging anything. You can check the connection there and see if there's issues.

If not, then the isp does need to check it.

Re: Dropping packets and extremely slow internet especially during peak hours

There's no junction box. It's just a straight shot from outside to my modem. It was fine up until about 2 months ago, infact I was slightly over provisioned from 75 to 85. Then all of the sudden it just tanked. I don't know if they broke something when the new neighbors moved in or what, but they certiainly are giving me a hard time about getting a tech out here. That's why I was kind of hoping it would be something I could fix myself.

sorry with that many errors and nothing in the line/good cable/connections, then it kind of leaves it up to the line being the issue .

Re: Dropping packets and extremely slow internet especially during peak hours

Ok, so... Sorry to bump a dead thread here, but it took 3 months and a call to the FCC to get them out here to fix my internet. They ran a new drop from the pole apparently the old one was completely full of water. I'm now getting advertised speeds and good ping, but it seems like my modem is still getting a ton of errors.

Can one of you guys take a look at this image and let me know if this is within spec? If not should I try to get them to replace the tap too?

They should probably check it.

The dynamic range window violations are the power spiking or dropping out to much.
