Endless Router Password Reset

CAX80 latest fiormware

When I go to http://192.168.1.1 or "routerlogin.net" on Chrome or Edge I see this page:

Router Password Reset

We can help you reset your router's admin password. You need your router's serial number, which can be found on the router label. Enter your router's serial number in the field and click the Continue button.
Enter the router's Serial Number

I follow all steps, enter all required information, set a new password and THEN ... I go to the to http://192.168.1.1 or "routerlogin.net" on Chrome or Edge I STILL see that Router Password Reset page above....

There are several topics in this support board describing very similar issue but for other netgear routers, mostly without any solution and one with a suggestion to do a hard reset.

This is not how high quality products should behave. Does anybody know what the problem is and how to fix it? Given dates of these topics, from 2017 and up, why wasn't it fixed in the latest firmware?

Re: Endless Router Password Reset

I've seen users caught in that loop when their passwords aren't meeting minimum requirements.

Have you ensured you're doing so?

10 characters

1 special character

1 number

1 upper case letter

1 lower case letter.

Re: Endless Router Password Reset

Yes, the App shows no update available.

Unlike the web interface from a computer, the Netgear app actually works. Though its capabilities are very limited. It is pretty much a useless app.

Is that the on board update check?

Some say that this fails both with the app and with a web browser and the graphical user interface (GUI).

The only reliable check is through the version that the GUI reports and the library of versions on the support page for a particular device.

It's complicated. The app can remote control things that are no longer possible with via the GUI.That died for security reasons. And who wants to be messing around with browsers in the mobile app days when all you want to do is to check that your router is behaving and to control things like the wifi access?

Throw everything onto the app and it would soon become an unmanageable mess.
