Is C7000 v2 Carton Distinctively Marked?
I would like to buy a C7000 v2 at retail in a large midwestern US city. How can I determine whether the retailer's shelf inventory is the older or newer version of the C7000?
Is there a distinctive model number for the C7000 v2 marked on the retail carton?

Contact the retailer to see if there is any v2 indication on the box.

Look for a number like "C7000-100NAS" or "C7000-200NAS". The "-1"
part denotes "v1"; the "-2", "v2". The letters vary with the region.
(And "AZ" suggests Amazon, not Arizona or Azerbaijan.)
Note that a "v2" is not always an improvement over a "v1", at least
from the customer point of view. In the case of the D7000, for example,
about the best that can be said is that the D7000v2 was cheaper to
manufacture. (I don't count more and different firmware bugs as an
improvement, and a later declaration of end-of-life matters little when
the bugs don't get fixed ever, anyway.)

I did. The reply from two of retailer's local stores was "I dunno...we've got whatever we've got...it doesn't matter because you can always bring it back...".

Antinode, thanks for the good information. I wondered what the AZ was in the model number of Amazon units.
And your other comments about your D7000 experience were perceptively on target. Hope that Netgear execs read them, but I doubt it.
I noticed C7000 owners/posters commenting that C7000 firmware upgrades were entirely at the discretion of their cable company, and beyond the reach of the router's owner.

You cannot manually update your NETGEAR cable modem or modem
router's firmware.
It's a DOCSIS requirement, not a Netgear requirement.

I don't think that 100, 200 denotes the version. I just received a C7000-1AZNAS from Amazon and the back of the Modem says C7000v2.

Better evidence might justify that conclusion.

Is that what the item description on the web site said, or what the
label on the factory-sealed box said, or what, exactly?

Given that Netgear typically sheds all its remaining "v1" devices
when the "v2" appears, I can easily believe that you might get a "v2"
when you ask for a "v1". Even with Netgear, however, it's harder to
believe that the original box was mislabeled.

The box is labeled with C7000-1AZNAS and the back of the modem is C7000v2

With my weak psychic powers, I can't see your "The box" or its label.
Even if it was authentic, errors and deception remain possibilities.

Re: Is C7000 v2 Carton Distinctively Marked?
Performance-wise, I do NOT see any real different.
Both run pretty hot. C7000 ( not version 2 ) can be laggy after long heavy usage.
But, after I added a 50x50x10mm 5V usb fan, it runs perfectly. Had not been lost connection or require reboot since.
