Thanks in advance for and suggestion or advice

Re: Modem and beyond
Either one would work.
If your into gaming then the XRM MESH maybe someting to look in to:

I have this same setup accept my router is the XR450. I have the EX7700 which is the same as whats in the XRM package. Works great in my 5000sq ft home. Two story. You could and another EX7700 if needed. I have two of them.
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
Size of your home will be a factor.
30 feet is recommended in between router and any extenders to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
