I noticed today when the router/modem cut out again that the Power LED was blinking red (which the manual says means "The modem router is performing a self-test or the thermal cutoff circuit has been triggered."). Is a self-test related to the log entries above, or is my device overheating?

Hard to tell but that sounds like a different issue than the T3 timeouts I would make sure its not getting to hot do not have things stacked on top of the modem.
