Nighthawk model c7100v does not handle gb speeds ?

Was told by Comcast that this router doesn't handle gigabit speeds without a firmware upgrade to docsis 3.1. Anyone know if the latest firmware makes this possible ?

There's no "upgrade the C7100v firmware" to docsis 3.1.

Docsis 3.1 is a harware change and not a firmware change.

You can buy a device with Docsis 3.1 capabilities like the C7800 that supports gigabit and has integrated router.

Just my 2 cents but I prefer to buy the modem and router seperate. That way you control the firmare on the router and can get the latest updates/upgrades. Plus if something goes wrong, its only 1 device that goes bad and you're not out a more expensive combo device.

but some prefer combo devices for the ease and integration
