issue attempting to upgrade Nighthawk cm2050v
I have an issue i've been fighting for months, latest is that my ISP (Comcast/Xfinity) says I need to upgrade the firmware on my Nighthawk CM2050V, but since I own it they will not do it. The NetGear Support page for the Nighthawk CM2050V says that the ISP has to do it.
Does anyone have a resolution for this issue?

Yes the ISP has to do it. I'd ask for escalated support at the ISP. Users are not allowed to update FW on Cm series modems at all. Only the ISP can.
Is there a problem with the modem?

Re: issue attempting to upgrade Nighthawk cm2050v
OK, more details.
I have an ongoing problem where various sites are saying that I am not in the United States (even though looking at my IP with sites such as whatismyip.com, ipchicken.com and ipinfo.io have no issues with reporting my location).
The support personnel for the various sites say that Xfinity is not returning the correct info when they ask about the location of my IP.
I contacted Xfinity and they say the problem is that the firmware on the modem needs to be updated, and (as of over a year ago) they no longer update the software on Customer Owned Modems.
Unfortunately (as the case on a lot of areas) Xfinity is the only ISP in the area offering High Speed Internet (I.E. 1GB+).
Is there a solution other than finding and purchasing another Cable Modem that has the ability for me to do firmware upgrades (and I assume for $$$)..

Re: issue attempting to upgrade Nighthawk cm2050v
question about the Firmware available on the NightHawk CM2050V - the modem shows it is running v10.01.03, research shows that this was released March 2025, can anyone confirm that this is the latest version available?
If so, I can go back to XFinity and ask them for a different resolution as this is already at the latest version of FIrmware Available.

This does not smell like a modem issue. It is your router that announces your location.

A classic case of support passing the buck at lightning speed.
Have you tried tackling your issue at the router level?
What is that router? Anything Netgear?

I think you will find that there is no such thing. The ISP just wants you to rent its modem.

Re: issue attempting to upgrade Nighthawk cm2050v
Your modem is fine and firmware version 10.01.03 is the most recent. Xfinity is in the process of slow rolling activation of their Enhanced Speed Network area by area. It may take a few months for completion.
Agree with @michaelkenward this points more to your router than your modem. There is a chance Xfinity has some problems with a group of WAN IP address it is using.
Suggest you change the Domain Name Server configuration in your router. Try using some of the public servers from Next, OpenDNS, Cloudflare, Google, etc. to see if the problem goes away. Be sure and configure both IPv4 and IPv6. The Xfinity default DNS servers have historically provided miserable and inconsistent service.
See attached.

Re: issue attempting to upgrade Nighthawk cm2050v
I'd agree with checking your router and its DNS settings. Don't just check/change the IPv4 but also the IPv6. Might be why some are showing correct and others aren't.
