linksys e1000

Just purchased a CM500 modem, I also have an old linksys e1000 wireless router--about 5 years old.  The modem is working, I get internet connection, but when I attempt to set up the wireless router I do not get any internet service.  Is the router not compatible with the modem because it is too old or is there something that I have to download to update the router?

Thanks!

  • Modems often will lock onto and provide Internet access to the first device that is plugged into it.  This could be your computer.  There are two ways around this.

    1. Plug in your Linksys and power cycle your modem.  This may cause the modem to lock onto the Linksys.
    2. Log into your Linksys and clone your computer's MAC address to the router.  This will fake out your modem into believing your router is your computer.  See page 18 in the Linksys E1000 manual (link).
