Once it stops responding, does it stay that way until you... what,
cycle the power? Other than the router's management web site dying, is
it working as expected?

Not I. Have you tried a settings reset (and manual reconfiguration)?
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look for "Factory Settings".
