Two 2.4ghz signals

I am having issues with connectivity to my 2.4ghz signal.  I have changed to unused channels, but am still having the issues.

I have used a wifi sniffing app to determine that the router is broadcasting 2x 2.4ghz signals.  One, with the SSID that i'm connecting to, and the other is open with no SSID.  I cannot connect to it, but it is still broadcasting.  Even when i change wifi channels, it still follows me.  I'm starting to believe that this signal is causing interference problems, causing my device to drop.

Any ideas on what this ghost signal is and how to turn it off?

  • Just to follow up, i stil cannot find why there are two signals.  I ended up purchasing an AP (NON-NETGEAR!) and ran a new cat6 from my router to it; i'm only using the AP to connect to my chromecast and TV.

What i've learned is NEVER buy a netgear anything; zero tech support, and shotty hardware.  I guess this is what i get for trying to save a few $$'s on a router.  With the added cost of the AP i should have just purchased a good wifi router to start with.  Lesson learned.
