When you go to Settings -> Mobile Broadband -> Preferences, there are 3 options:

Int'l Roaming : Off On
Network Mode: Auto(Default), LTE Only, 4G Only

Network selection mode: Auto

What is Network selection mode and how do I enable being able to change it? I'm assuming it lets me select the Bands I want the hotspot to use (such as LTE BAND 4 for aws)

Network selection mode allows you to scan a list of mobile carriers in that location. This is to allow a user to choose the carrier of choice if device does not automatically pick it up. This feature is mainly used when roaming internationally.

The Network Mode option allows you to choose the band. Either LTE only or 3G only bands.
