Netgear Nighthawk M1 3G and 4G reception

My Netgear Nighthawk M1 defaults to 4G signal reception. In my fairly remote area, I get one or two bars for 4G at best, but all bars for 3G signal.  Accordingly, I get a signal strength of fair to good at best, and I lose the signal several times a day. 

Is there a way to force my M1 device to default to 3G reception, thus enabling my device to get better signal reception?
