R8000 Nighthawk device list and circle app all show different Mac addresses

I recently reset the router to defaults and started this over.  But now the circle app doesn't work.  When I started troubleshooting I found that the device names show a different mac address when I log on to the routers admin page.  The netgear app shows a different mac and the circle app shows the wrong one too.  Furthermore, none of them are the actual mac address of the device.  I feel like I have fallen in a very special hole made just for me 😞
