D7000 compatabilty issue with AT&T DSL
Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000168 EndHTML:0000001663 StartFragment:0000000500 EndFragment:0000001646
OK I've just spent $250 on a D7000 as per Netgear Tech support suggestion after failure with DM200 & Ac1750. Same resuts after 8 hours total time of testing , recabling and re configuring.
Bottom line right now I have a Motorola NVG5100 supplied from AT&T that works perfectly. I wanted the features of the Netgear router.
Once connected to the DM200 and the AC1750 I get the Internet led solid but not the DSL. Tested, reconfigure, Tested, reconfigure, Tested and yes removed cables a ton of time. Tech suggested the D7000. Sooooo I returned the Ac1750 and got the D7000 and got the same results. Both Netgear equipents mentions compatable with AT&T service (this is not Universe).
Need assistance or suggestion or confirm that the AC1750, DM200 and the D7000 is not compatable with AT&T DSL service as advertised.
8 hours over two days is enough tech support for me. More details can be suppplied if need be.

Re: D7000 compatabilty issue with AT&T DSL
For all the details in your message, it doesn't tell us much about what is actually going on.
Forget all the old stuff. You have the D7000.
What happens when you connect it, and nothing else, to your DSL line?
There is a manual for the D7000 somewhere at the end of this link:
>>> D7000 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<
For many people, the setup wizard does the job. You just need to find the login details for your Internet service provider, AT&T.
This might help with login details:
ISP information for North America | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Pity it is out of date.

Re: D7000 compatabilty issue with AT&T DSL
OK thanks for the concern. As one might imagen when you talk with tech support for 8 hours total time with 3 different techs a number of work arounds was attempted. In a nutshell:
Currently I have the Motorola modem/router NVG510 in the network with wifi. I have a Dell Workstation and a Vonage voice box connected to its ethernet ports. I have Internet Basic 6 service IPPB, ADSL2+. This is not Universe. Per AT&T this is not ATM. It is bridged.
When I moved the DSL cable ( at one point I was confused when I noticed it was labled CAT5 patch cable but I don't think this is an issue now) to ether the DSL or the or Internet port I get no network led and no DSL Led and/or a network led on solid with no DSL, depending on the configuration. At one point I was directed to connect to one of the ethernet porta but that failed also. The wifi circuits worked ok. No login is required.
We did the auto connect a number of times with the same results. When we did the manual config if I remember correctly we adjusted the following:
ATT Type, PPPOE, PPPOA, VCI VPI 8,35 or 0, 35, the MAC address, MTU, Auto or ASDL2+ (transfer mode), WPA2-PSK.
We always let the router get a IP from the network same with DNS and NAT. There were a number of changes that were not done as are indicated in the manual.
At times the Genie Internet status was good, and the Wireless also.
We powered down/up and reset to default settings.
The last testing frustrated me when the tech suggested I get a AT&T dispatch to test the circuit. This made no sense at all to me since the service was working on the Motorola.
Ether AT&T (San Franciso Bay Area) is doing something funny with their network. At one point a AT&T did say they encrypt the data so that 3rd party modems don't work. But on there web page there are listed 3rd party modems that do. Not listed are the AC1750 nor the D7000.
Or there is some sort of miss configuration on the D7000 that 3 netgear support techs didnt catch. I did asked them do they have a lab where they could simulate the issue and was told yes they do. There are statements on the netgear box that they support AT&T service.
Or a firmwear or hardware issue.
Or its time to sleep with the manual to see if there is something over looked.
Has anyone had simular issues with AT&T?

Re: D7000 compatabilty issue with AT&T DSL
I'm sorry, yet more explanation, but very little clear information to work on.
For example, I don't understand what is going on here.

Do you have the Motorola modem/router NVG510 at the moment and want to replace it with the D7000?
And what does this bit mean?
I have Internet Basic 6 service IPPB, ADSL2+. This is not Universe. Per AT&T this is not ATM. It is bridged.
Talk of ATM is confusing. The usual options there are ATM or PPPoE. In modem/router talk "bridged" has a specific meaning. It applies if you want to use the D7000 behind the Motorola NVG510.
Then there is this bit:

This reads like flailing around rather than a logical approach.
The cable you connect to the ADSL service is not a CAT5 patch cable. In most cases, that cable won't fit into the DSL socket.
A CAT5 patch cable will fit into the WAN socket, but that will not get you connected to the internet. Unless you are using the Motorola NVG510 as a modem, in which case we are in completely different territory. You have to set up the D7000 in a different way.
You use an ADSL cable to connect the DSL socket on the back of the modem/router to the telephone socket that brings in the internet. You probably also need an ADSL filter in there too.
When you do that, the internet LED will do its thing.
As you can see, I am having a hard time trying to separate the useful information from stuff that doesn't matter, and other bits that don't make sense.
Running around randomly plugging different things into different sockets isn't the way to go about it. There is a pretty straight forward Quick Start guide here:

Re: D7000 compatabilty issue with AT&T DSL
OK,
The issue of me not able to connect to the network properly was report to Netagear support. Network Led on solid , no dsI.
I opened a total two tickets, talked to 3 techs and worked with them for 8 hours total.
I followed all of their intructions step by step. In the process the suggestions included moving cables and changing configuration. Their procedures not mine. Again we tried the auto set up and the manual setup with numerous menu configuration changes.
As I mention my cable its green, and labled CAT 5 patch cable with RJ11. If there is no issue with the pinout this may not be a issue but I mentioned it when they wanted no know my physical connection.
My text may have suggested randomness but I assure you I followed their procuderes over the phone, reported what my observation where and followed thier next steps.
If they have a lab setup where they can duplicates the issue, have a manual on hand themselves, have configuration shorts cuts, have a trouble shooting guide, have configurations of different ISP setups they can compares, have a history of such issues available, next level of suppport or other tools I don't know.
8 hours over 3 days of working with support I would think is too long. Upon their suggestion I spent $240 on the D7000. They have thier ticket that I'm sure they can review.
Again I ask, has anyone in this community installed D7000 or simular equipment in the AT&T DSL Basic 6 California Bay Area network and has been succesfull with thier service
I will go through the manual and see if I can find the issue and resolve, If I do then I will update and apply for a job with Neatgear support. If I dont then I will open another ticket and start from scratch.
In the mean time my connection with the Motorola NVG510 is good but when I move the cable to the D7000 it is not.

Re: D7000 compatabilty issue with AT&T DSL
If it were me, before giving-up on the D7000 I would try it in AP mode using the Motorola modem, if only to verify that it works that way (and there isn't for example a hardware problem).
If that works, and your intent was to get the benefits of the D7000's WiFi, well maybe you can live with it, at least until you see confirmation from another D7000 user (one way or the other) in your area.

Good thinking.

Re: D7000 compatabilty issue with AT&T DSL
Access Point steps actually start on page 112, at least on my D7000v1 user manual.
As noted on page 114, you should turn OFF the WiFi on your DSL modem to make sure there's no interference generated between the two gizmos.
Another thing I would try d0gm0n, if Netgear support has not already suggested, would be to download the last previous firmware release, v60 instead of .64, and try that. Build 64 added a bunch of chromecast stuff and unless you need that, I found it broke my own D7000v1. If you do this, I suggest you Erase all settings and start-over from scratch--don't just re-flash to .60 with your current settings.
