D7000v1 - Firmware v1.0.1.82_1.0.1 - Need Moderator help, we can not update to this firmware version

@Moderator

Could you please tell Netgear they have made a mistake.

I can not get anywhere with Netgears "Contact Us", because if you bought the machine more than 2 year ago there are no options but to use the Community site.

Hence why I request a moderator here to please contact Netgear on our behalf reference the following.

Problem Description:

Netgear D7000 v1 - Serial Number = 4EV363B200555

Firmware Installed = 1.0.1.80_1.0.1

Using the "Firmware Update" in the routers Advanced Management page, does not find any updates online ..

Plus - Manually downloading the Firmware update from here ..

https://www.netgear.com/support/product/D7000.aspx#Firmware%20Version%201.0.1.82

.. You receive a zip with the correct file version name, however when you unzip the archive, the Firmware image within is still the same old 1.0.1.80_1.0.1

TLDR - We have no way of upgrading to 1.0.1.82_1.0.1 due to the old firmware unable to find any update, and manually grabbing the image file just gets the same version of the firmware we already have

Downloaded zip is called = D7000_V1.0.1.82_1.0.1.zip

Image file inside the zip = D7000 V1.0.1.80_1.0.1.img

The CRC of the image file matches exactly the CRC of the previously downloaded .80 image file we already have.

Conclusion = NetGear have uploaded a newly named zip for .82, but have included the old .80 image file in that zip. And probably also uploaded the same image file for netgear routers to "find", so they do not update to any new firmware.

See attched screenshot of the downloaded .img file.

Considering this .82 firmware update includes security fixes, I am very anxious to update my routers firmware so that it is no longer vulnerable.

Just gave it a shot and found the same thing. Nice catch. Not sure if its a naming issue or if its truly the wrong file as I don't have a D7000 to check it on.

maybe @DarrenM or @ChristineT can help.

The file within the zip is EXACTLY the same as the previous update, if there was just one bit of data difference the CRCs (Cyclic Redundancy Check) would not match.

CRC For previous update .80 was - BCAE09F9

CRC for the image file in .82 is - BCAE09F9

See screenshot attached to this post.

Clearly they have included the old .80 image file, even the filename within the zip is .80

🙂 Excellent, thank you.

Also please mention that it is not just the downloadable file that is a problem, using the routers Advanced management page to Find updates online to the firmware also fails to find anything newer than the .80 we already have installed.

I also checked if any firmware upgardes were available via "check for new version" nothing showed up. My current version is V1.0.1.80_1.0.1

Upon downloading and extracting D7000_V1.0.1.82_1.0.1.zip the .img would now appear to be D7000-V1.0.1.82_1.0.1.img however when upgarding my D7000 always fails.
