Nighthawk D700v2 needs internet setting applied every time I reboot

Any time my router is restarted, either purposely or from a power cut, I have to login to the mainframe and apply the internet settings in order for the internet connection to work again. Does anyone else have this issue? Would be great to not have to do this every time I restart the router.

The router is fully up to date as of 11th March 2020, any help would be greatly appreciated!

What did your Web or forum search find?  (I've seen such complaints
about some models, but I don't recall the D7000v2 being one of them.)

As always, an actual version number would be more useful than your
opinion of what's "up to date" as of some date or other.

I'm not sure what "the mainframe" means to you, but if I had such a
problem, then the first thing I'd do is save my settings.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for
"Manage the Configuration File of the Modem Router".  It might not solve
the problem, but it should make recovery faster and easier.

As for the actual problem, I'd start with a settings (misnomer:
"Factory") reset, and manual reconfiguration.  (_Then_ save the
settings.)  When that fails to help, I'd try again with a different
firmware version (even if it's older).

Could be bad hardware, too, of course.

If it weren't costly to do so (such as, if there's any warranty
left), then I'd certainly complain to Netgear.

I haven't been able to find anything else relating to this issue on the forum.

The firmware version V1.0.0.56_1.0.1

The problem is everytime the router is turned off, or there'a a problem with the ONT, then I have to login to the router and click "apply" for the internet to work.

Re: Nighthawk D700v2 needs internet setting applied every time I reboot

You are using the D7000v2 DSL modem/router (as in your subject/footer) after an ONT?

It should work, but I assume that you have set up the D7000v2 in router only mode, bypassing the modem.

See the bit in the manual Set Up the Modem Router for Cable or Fiber Service.

Login to what on the router? Some sort of popup? The browser graphical user interface?

I can only chose between Router (Modem & Router) or Modem, there isn't an option to use the device as Router only. I have it set to "Router" mode.

Yes, login to the router via routerlogin.net and then click "internet" and then click "apply".

At BASIC > Internet (Internet Setup)?

Is there a (non-zero) "Idle Timeout (minutes)" set there?

Right.  There is no router-only setting.  The closest thing would be
what's described at "Change the Physical WAN Connection Preference" in
the User Manual.  But, because your (modem+)router seems to have figured
out automatically that its "LAN 4 / Internet Port" (and not its DSL
port) is its Internet connection, I wouldn't expect "Must use Ethernet
WAN" to have much of an effect on anything.  Shouldn't hurt to try it,
though.

If there is no Router only mode, how come you have set it to Router mode?

No matter, while there may not be something labelled "router only" mode, the manual does explain how to configure this device with services other than DSL.

As stated already, see the section Set Up the Modem Router for Cable or Fiber Service.

Is that what you have done? You didn't respond to that bit.

The setup certainly looks complicated, but I guess that is what you get when you want to use something in a way that wasn't intended.

I assume that you have the Connection Mode set to be Always On, if that is available.

Finally, you did not confirm that you are using this device with an optical connection. That was just an assumption on my part that you did not respond to. If not, then I am barking up the wrong tree, which is not unknown.

It really would pay to get some information before wasting everyone's
time with nonsense this way.

At ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Device Mode, the options are:

      Router (Modem + Router)
      Modem (Modem only)

As previously explained, there is no "router only" option.

What difference would it make?  Anything with an Ethernet connection
is treated the same way, wheher it's a cable or DSL modem, or an ONT, or
anything else.

   The "barking" part certainly isn't.
