What is the difference between Netgear DM111P ADSL2+ Ethernet Modem V1 and V2? I do not know which version I have. This is a factory refurbished modem I bought on Amazon. There is no serial number.

What are you trying to do? Simply update the firmware?
The newest version of this device dates back to 2011.
There hasn't been an update for that since 2016:
DM111PSPv2 Firmware Version 1.1.00.09 (NA Only) | Answer | NETGEAR Support
The original V1 will be even older.

Re: Unable to identify version number for DM111P modem
I have just learned that the only difference is the firmware. So now I need to know what version of firmware I need to update the modem. Is it possible that the download can be determined by download site?

Is there a product label with a "Model" field?
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number(s), and
look for Documentation. Get the Reference/User Manual(s). Look for the
basic how-to stuff on using a web browser to manage the thing(s), and
see if you can discover its actual/complete model number some place on
its/their management web site(s).

You "learned" this how, exactly? I've never touched one, so I know
nothing, but I'd guess that if the only difference between these
hardware versions were firmware, then there would not be two hardware
versions. More likely, the "v2" variant is a different design, which
was cheaper to manufacture than the "[v1]", but has the same general
feature set. Because of the hardware differences, they use different
firmware.

You might start by trying to discover which firmware version you have
now.
> Is it possible that the download can be determined by download site?
"determined"? Generally:
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads. (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".) Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want. Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions. (In the User Manual, look for "firmware", and,
especially, for a topic like "Manually Upload Firmware to the Router".)
The firmware version numbers for these two different devices look
different. If you can find your current firmware version, then you
might be able to deduce your hardware variant from it.

Re: Unable to identify version number for DM111P modem
I finally got the information I wanted from Netgear. They said this:
There is no such difference between v1 and v2 of the modem, they both are different versions of a same model of modem with different base firmware version.
I was then able to verify the firmware version that I had, and it turned out that I had the latest. All I was trying to do was to get the latest firmware.
Thanks to all who replied.

"such" as what? If you wish to believe that nonsense then it's ok
with me.

As always, an actual version number would be more useful than your
opinion of what's "the latest" today.

General advice: Stating your actual goal in your first post can be
more helpful than mentioning it in your last.

Re: Unable to identify version number for DM111P modem

Trying to follow your contorted "reasoning" is fun, in a pathetic
sort of way.
> Your comments about my original post trying to get some information are

Right. Netgear adds a "v2" suffix to a hardware model number because
they made no changes to the ""[v1]" hardware? And they number the
firmware versions entirely differently because they actually run on the
same hardware?
My explanation still makes more sense.
But, speaking of "trying to get some information", thanks for the
prompt and detailed answers to all my questions.
