D7000-100UKS Nighthawk AC1900 dropping internet connection
My router is dropping the internet connection with increasing frequency over the last year. This happened very occasionally when I first bought it, but now is happening multiple times a week. Devices connected simply say that there is no internet connection, and there are no red LEDs on the router when I check (indeed I'm pretty sure the internet indicator is blue. Unplugging then replugging the router fixes the issue but obviously that's not idea.

Re: D7000-100UKS Nighthawk AC1900 dropping internet connection
Sorry I meant to say: I keep the firmware updated (will have to check what exact version when I get home). I appreciate that this may well not be enough information to help diagnose the issue, so please let me know what other information I can provide.

Re: D7000-100UKS Nighthawk AC1900 dropping internet connection
OK I've now upgraded to the latest firmware and the problem is still happening 😞 The Netgear software says that there is simply no connection to the internet, but the router itself has the blue light on for the internet. As I say, unplugging then replugging the router seems to fix it but it's far from idea. Any ideas? I'm kinda desperate...

What is the number for that firmware? It may or may not be "the latest " depending on how you updated it.
Is this the D7000 V1 or V2. (Look at the label on the thing.)

What Netgear software are we talking about here?
How are you connecting to the D7000 ? Wifi? Wired Ethernet?
Do you have Internet access? Or is it just a misleading message from this unknown software?
Blue light? It should be Solid White for active Internet. There are no blue LEDs according to the manual.
What about the other LEDs. DSL OK?
If you visit the support pages:
you can feed in the model number and find all the documentation for your hardware.

Re: D7000-100UKS Nighthawk AC1900 dropping internet connection
Thanks so much for the response and questions. I'm away for a couple of days but will reply to all your questions tomorrow evening (UK time).
One that I can reply to now:
> Do you have Internet access? Or is it just a misleading message from this unknown software?
No sadly not. No internet access whatsoever until I reboot.

Around here, normally, the LED indicators are fairly busy (flashing)
most of the time. When my D7000[v1] (V1.0.1.74_1.0.1) freezes, they
retain a nice (blue-)white color, but all activity (flashing) stops.

Doesn't the "1" in "D7000-100UKS" answer that?

Do you really want to argue about whether bluish white is really blue
or white?

I'll readily admit that reading the User Manual would be helpful as a
guide to common terminology (at the very least).

Re: D7000-100UKS Nighthawk AC1900 dropping internet connection
Hi @michaelkenward,
Sorry for the delayed response; busy week.
> What is the number for that firmware?
V1.0.1.74; updated using the Netgear genie app.
> Is this the D7000 V1 or V2. (Look at the label on the thing.)
v1 I presume; there's no mention of a v2 on the label.
> What Netgear software are we talking about here?
Netgear Genie Version 2.4.42
> How are you connecting to the D7000 ? Wifi? Wired Ethernet?
Wifi
> Blue light? It should be Solid White for active Internet. There are no blue LEDs according to the manual.
Hmm I thought it was blue but you're right; I think it's white. Perhaps my memory was playing tricks on me. Either way it was the same colour as all the others.
> What about the other LEDs. DSL OK?
I'll double check if it happens again but pretty certain DSL was ok as well.
@antinode thanks for your reply too; did you end up installing https://github.com/negan07/ancistrus? I don't know too much about firmware so slightly wary but also getting a bit desperate...

Re: D7000-100UKS Nighthawk AC1900 dropping internet connection
Which ISP is this? BT?
One recent visitor here had to mess around with the MTU settings in the WAN setup to get their DSL modem to play ball.
In my case I let the setup wizard do its thing. There aren't that many ISPs in the UK that don't run off the BT network, so the wizard is usually good enough. MTU is 1492 here, and I "Disable IGMP Proxying".

Not yet. I have switched to a spare D7000, to try to
condemn/exonerate the hardware. Perhaps in a month or two I'll know
more.

Re: D7000-100UKS Nighthawk AC1900 dropping internet connection
Hi @michaelkenward,
Thanks again for your response; I'm away at the moment but yes indeed it is BT. Interesting re. the MTU settings; could that cause the internet to simply drop out? I guess it could...
Will try setting the MTU to 1492 and disabling IGMP Proxying when I get back.
Many thanks,
Alastair

Probably pointless, unless you have a D7000v2 (which a D7000-100UKS
is not).

I'd bet that directing a fan at the thing would be more helpful as a
diagnostic aid than trying to apply a model-specific hardware fix for
hardware that he doesn't have. Just my guess.

Re: D7000-100UKS Nighthawk AC1900 dropping internet connection

As I explained, _my_ (common?) sense would lead me to try to identify
the problem first, and then trying to determine how to solve it, rather
than leaping at a potential "solution" which is not directly applicable
to my situation.
> [...] But if one owns a soldering iron [...]
As explained elsewhere, the CPU heat sink in a D7000[v1] is not
soldered to anything.
I see that you're proud of your solution to _your_ problem, but
recommending it to everyone on the planet might not ideal for all.
