Guide to setting up D7000 with R7000 as a repeater

Does anyone know of any guides to setup my D7000 and R7000 so I can use the R7000 as a repeater? I'm seeing very slow wifi speeds close to the R7000 and wondering what is causing this issue and fear there is something I've missed in the setup.

   Other than what's in the respective User Manuals?  Not I.

   Define "very slow" and "close".

   I've missed practically everything.  How, exactly, did you configure
these devices?  Are they using different radio channels?
