Nighthawk X4S D7800 - Easyshare problems
Nighthawk X4S D7800, Router Firmware Version V1.0.1.16
I'm trying to set up a few share located in an attached USB device. As far as I used a FAT32 device, everything looks ok. With NTFS it simply does not work.
***** This is what happens with a FAT32 Card with an USB reader
When I pluged in the USB device, the D7800 correctly reported:
\\readyshare\USB_Storage
Clicked [Edit]. Changed the share name to \\readyshare\DISK_1 (read and write pw = admin)
\\readyshare\DISK_1 admin admin U:\
via Windows explorer I opened the share:
\\readyshare\DISK_1
I created a new folder and shared it:
\\readyshare\test share admin admin U:\test share
I created a second folder and shared it:
\\readyshare\test sub folder admin admin U:\test share\test sub folder
I was able to create a text file in the shares via Windows Explorer.
***** With a NTFS Disk:
\\readyshare\DISK_1 admin admin U:\
via Windows Explorer I opened
\\readyshare\DISK_1
I tried to create a new folder. Windows reported an error:
Could not find this item. This is no longer located in \\Readyshare\disk_1. Verify the item's location and try again.
I clicked [Try Again] but the error did not go away. The only option was [Cancel]. This created a "New Folder" folder. The only way to change the name of "New Folder" to something else was via FTP.
I tried to create the share:
\\readyshare\test sub folder admin admin U:\test share\test sub folder
No error message or any other indication, the share was not created.
Can you see any mistake on my side? Is it me or it's a (series of) bug(s)?

I must admit I'm a little bit overwelmed by the number of suggestions I received during the past week.

Hello 5V
Do you have any other storage device besides FAT32 Card with an USB reader? Like USB flash drive or a portable HDD it is possible the issue is being encountered because you are using a USB reader. Can you try a older FW version and see if same problem can be seen.

Re: Nighthawk X4S D7800 - Easyshare problems
DarrenM,
You may want to read my first post again. The problem is not with FAT32 volumes but with NTFS volumes.
I tried with three different NTFS types of device: SD card reader, USB Memory Stick, USB external disk drive. All of them showed the same problem.
I tried with a SD card reader formatted FAT32 and it did work.
As I said in a previous post, this problem is now under management of Netgear Technical Support directly.
