WiFi through router

I have an AC1750 model R6350. Our internet is Verizon, and I have a NETGEAR modem coming in as well, and I’d like to know if I can somehow boost my internet using the NETGEAR router and modem. Is this possible? I’ve spent a lot of money on the products and it would really be a let down if this isn’t possible, I just assumed that is how it worked.

Does your (unspecified) "a NETGEAR modem" also have a model number?
Firmware version(s)?

What level of service are you getting from Verizon?

What, exactly, does "boost my internet" mean to you?  Are you looking
for higher speed, or greater wireless-network range, or what?

What kinds of devices are you connecting to the R6350 router, and
how?  (Wired? Wireless?)

_What_, exactly, "is how it worked"?  Do you have some specific
complaint about something?  Care to share?  Apparently, you're unhappy
about something, but exactly why is a mystery to the non-psychics in
your audience.
