GC752XP IP Change Issues

So I have 9 GC752XP and 5 GS752TPP Switches that comprise my network here.  They are all insight managed.  When We first set them all up we had everything on one big flat /16 network on VLAN 1 so when they were initially deployed to the network with the insight app they showed up in the location, grabbed an IP from the local DHCP server, updated their firmware and then I used the insight web portal to statically set the IPs.  I went into the location and went to the individual device, then IP settings, then turned off assign automatically and typed in my desired values.

What this ended up doing at a config level was gave me the following (i'm omitting some of the config that doesn't matter)

!Current Configuration:
!
!System Description "GC752XP Insight Managed 52-Port Gigabit Ethernet PoE+ Smart Cloud Rackmount Switch with 2 SFP 1G Fiber Ports & 2 SFP+ 10G Fiber Ports (505W), 1.0.5.36, B1.0.0.4"
!System Software Version "1.0.5.36"
!Additional Packages QOS,IPv6,IPv6 Management,Routing
!
network protocol none
network parms 169.254.0.239 255.255.0.0 169.254.0.1

vlan routing 1 1

ip routing

!

interface vlan 1
routing
ip address 176.100.1.148 255.255.0.0
exit
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 176.100.203.1 2
exit

So what appears to have happened is that insight didn't set the management IP it set VLAN 1 to have an actual IP of 176.100.1.148 and turned on routing (which honestly I don't need on these switches) and set the default route to 176.100.203.1 which is the default gateway.

Now that i've actually built out all my VLANs and trunked everything and configured a new permanent default gateway on my core layer 3 device I need to change the IP and Default Gateway info.  So I went into the same part of insight and attempted to do so and something weird happened.  I put in my desired values just like last time which are still on VLAN 1 (IP:192.168.100.28 255.255.255.0 192.168.100.1) and hit save.  I waited for about 20 minutes but nothing updated in the insight settings to the new IP nor would the new IP ping or anything.  I realized I could still reach the switch via the original IP so I went into the web interface and exported the config and this is what I have now.

exit

-------------

So all that happened was that it changed the "Network Parms" section of the config but did nothing with VLAN 1 or any of the ip addressing and even after rebooting the switch I still can't access the 192.168.100.28 ip or ping it.

I don't want to reset the switch the defaults because i've assigned all kinds of vlans/voice vlans to most of the ports and configured descriptions and trunks to other switches etc.

Is there a way I can disable the Layer 3/Routing stuff on these switches and just have a management IP and not have an IP actually assigned to VLAN 1.

If I need to assign the IP info to VLAN 1 its fine but when I try to do so through insight all it does is modify the Network Parms area and nothing else.

    Hello Gedruspax,

    And welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂

    It seems like the Insight management platform is not updating the configuration as expected when you try to change the management IP settings.

    To disable Layer 3 routing on these switches, you can follow these steps:

    1 )Access the switch through the web interface using the original IP address (176.100.1.148).
    2) Go to the "Network" or "System" section of the web interface.
    3) Look for options related to Layer 3 or IP routing settings.
    4) Disable or turn off the IP routing feature on the switch. This will remove the default route and prevent the switch from acting as a Layer 3 router.

    Then you need to configure the desired management IP settings You mentioned you want to use the IP 192.168.100.28 for management. You can try Assigning IP to VLAN 1

    Please follow the steps below :

    1)Go to the "VLAN" section of the web interface and select VLAN 1.
    2)Configure the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway as follows:
        * IP Address: 192.168.100.28
        * Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
        * Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1

    And next, you can  Create a dedicated management VLAN

    1. Go to the "VLAN" section of the web interface and create a new VLAN (e.g., VLAN 99) for management purposes.
    2. Assign a port to this new VLAN (e.g., one of the unused ports).
    3. Configure the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway for VLAN 99 as follows:
      • IP Address: 192.168.100.28
      • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
      • Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1

    After making these changes, make sure to save the configuration and let the switch apply the settings.

    And we suggest you backup the configuration in case you need to revert any changes.

    We hope it would be helpful if you find it working you can close the thread by clicking "Accept as solution".

    Have a lovely day,

      Only problem is that none of those options are available on a switch that is in Insight managed mode.  You can go to the local UI and login but all you can do there when the switch is in insight managed mode is basically look at logs, reboot it, export configs, and turn off Insight managed mode.
