M4300 series stacking functionality

Hi!

I'm new to NetGear and I have question from customer regarding stacking features of Netgear M4300-28G-PoE+ and Netgear M4300-52G switches. I was asked, do these models have dedicated bus for stacking?

In your documentation for these models I don't see anything like that beeing mentioned.

The only place I saw, dedicated port or bus beeing mentioned was in ProSafe® 24- and 48-port Gigabit Stackable Smart SwitchesData SheetGS728TS, GS728TPS, GS752TS and GS752TPS Data Sheet, where you say:

The new generation of Stackable Smart Switches use 2 dedicated dual-purpose ports in the front of the switch for stacking or uplink. The stacking function offers a 10 Gbps, dual-ring, highly redundant stacking bus that carries intra-stack traffic and provide the highest level of resilience, allowing you to stack up to six switches or up to 300 10/100/1000 Mbps ports, forming a virtual chassis for easy management under a single IP address.

Can you point me to right documentation for clarification?

Thanks in advance!

Certain ports on the front can be used for stacking. They have to be switched from a regular (ethernet) mode into a stacking mode which requires a reboot to make it apply the change. Typically it's the 10G ports on these models that can be configure for stack mode.

The reference on stacking is likely the Admin Guide for the M4300 series which you can find in the download section for each M4300 model. There is also KB entry about overall stacking with the M4300 series: https://kb.netgear.com/30332/M4300-Managed-Switch-Series-Stacking-Information

Physically they are not that need special cables (earlier Netgear switches did require this), but the configured operation mode is the defining thing.

    I hope that helps :-)
